Back in 1995 I was co-owner of the first MLM Company to run 30 minute infomercials since the HerbaLife shows on USA Network in the early eighties.
Our shows added thousands of members to our company and the system we had in place worked flawlessly until some greedy associates tried to short cut the system. To run an infomercial we required that you be at a certain level of leadership within the company.
The last thing we wanted was brand new people trying to short cut the system and build their business by throwing money in the infomercial hole. We knew that a certain level of leadership and experience would be required by distributors who followed up on the infomercial leads and we didn't want young, inexperienced distributors wasting their time and money on this program.
Unfortunately some upline leaders had distributors co-op their money and buy shares within the program, without our knowledge. This ultimately was a disaster because the wrong people were on the phone following up with prospects and in many cases they had only been involved in the program for 30 days or less. It was a real mess.
When we put together the Web Cash Leads program, we did everything within our power to make the program the most effective email lead generation program in the world for THE RIGHT PEOPLE. We combined Lead generation with profitable funded proposals products and the top Email delivery/auto responder system in the industry. However we soon became aware of two major challenges (1) Unfortunately many young inexperienced distributors joined our program thinking we would send out a few emails on their behalf, and crowds of people would call them with check book in hand and demand to join their downline. I obviously am exaggerating this, but not by much.
The second problem became that of reliable email delivery systems. With the evolution of spam filters, and email protection systems it became harder and harder to get email delivered even to people that had requested the information!
We ended it spending tens of thousands of dollars with several venders trying to insure that our members emails would be delivered. We ultimately had to use an off shore server which cost a fortune. To make a long story short, we witnessed first hand the rise and fall of email marketing.
There is no doubt that many people have made a fortune with email marketing. Many network markers created huge organizations seemingly over night with single line downline programs. However in our opinion those days are gone.
Network marketing always has been and always will be a business of relationships. Depending on email only to create business prospects is not a viable option for most network marketers in today's world.
Over the last couple of years we have seen a increase in people who join
a network marketing company and attempt to build their entire organization online. The reality is, for MOST people this is not an option.
You most develop a certain level of skill, awareness, and understanding before you enter the cold market. I have always believed that you, Build it in your backyard first, create success in your local market first before you attempt to take on the cold market.
Don't go across the country until you have gone across the street!
My advise to you is simply this. If you are new to the industry, learn how to create leads and success in your local market first. I highly recommend this course.
If you already have a successful organization established adding an email lead generation system as part of your daily method of operation makes sense. The name of the game is sorting through people. We are all looking for the right people at the right time in their life. An email lead system will simply help you get through more people quicker.
Dont expect to build your entire organization online. Use online lead generation to add to your existing daily method of operation.
Personally starting a lead generation company was a big mistake. No matter what we did, or how we taught people to use our program, just far too many people had unrealistic expectations on what could be accomplished with this type of program.
People would rather throw money at a lead program than learn the skills and attitudes necessary to help them become a good recruiter in their local market. Until you learn how to generate your own leads, you should never depend on an email lead program.
I am glad to be out of the business. Telling people the truth, and encouraging them to grow, and develop the skills of a master recruiter is easier to do when people aren't looking to shortcut the system thinking email leads are going to make them rich.
